Only health care
professionals who work in hospital and pre hospital environment can qualify for
ACLS certification. People from other fields of profession may have to settle
with BLS courses only.
Heart attacks, strokes
and other medical emergencies as such do not usually happen with prior
warnings. It just comes to take place like a bolt from the blue. These again,
are types of emergencies that can be so severe and quick that it can end up
claiming the life of the concerned victim within seconds if not at once. The
time taken to carry the patient to the hospital is crucial in the sense that
this is the moment that determines what damages the patient will end up
suffering either permanently or temporarily till the time he / she is exposed
to proper emergency hospital treatment. This is where the importance of an
intervention system known as advanced cardiovascular life support or ACLS
has been introduced, the aim of which is to offer immediate attention and
intervention to the concerned patient so that he / she does not end up
suffering severe consequences as a result of the life threatening event that
the latter may have come face to face with.
This form of life
support begins with assessing the condition of the patient perfectly and
offering intervention urgently, sometimes, within a frame of time not more than
a couple of minutes if not lesser. Proper usage of devices to detect blockages,
monitoring heart rates, application of chest compressions, clearing breathing
obstructions and administering required dosage of urgent drugs and medication
can be mentioned as a part of duties that have to be taken up by those who are
appointed to offer the support. As the nature of the task spells, this is
something that requires professionals who have been involved with offering
health care as a part of their profession. Thus, it is certainly not a task
that can be handled by anyone and everyone from any walk of life.
This is one of the
reasons why it has been specified by the authorities that certification for the
same can be obtained only by those who are employed in immediate hospital
environment and pre hospital environment like the doctors, nurses, nurse
practitioners, paramedics, etc. Those who are planning to enter the health care
industry can also qualify to take the course certification.
